Who announced the engagement?

Buckingham Palace broke the news today, 26th September 2019:

“The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York to Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Her Royal Highness and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi became engaged while away for the weekend in Italy earlier this month. The wedding will take place in 2020. Further details will be announced in due course.”

How did the couple meet?

Beatrice split up from her boyfriend of ten years, Dave Clark, in 2016.

She then appeared with property tycoon, Edoardo, known to friends as Edo, in June 2018 at an event hosted by Prince Andrew at St James’s Palace in London.

According to media, the Princess began dating Edoardo after they met again in October 2018 at her sister Eugenie’s wedding.

Princess Beatrice Engagement Ring – all the details

The ring is a diamond sidestone ring with a round brilliant cut diamond in the centre.

The centre stone is around 3.5 carats in weight by our estimation.

The ring is estimated to have cost around £100,000.

The beautiful centre stone is displayed between diamond shoulders that are made up of baguette cut diamond sidestones.

The setting is likely to be platinum.

Sidestone rings are a stunning choice for engagements. Simple yet elegant, they have the understated sophistication of a solitaire ring, but the sidestones that sparkle on the band a further touch of luxury.

Beatrice’s ring is most similar in design to the engagement ring of Queen Elizabeth II

Out of all the British Royal engagement rings in the past two centuries, Princess Beatrice’s ring is closest in style to that of Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince Phillip of Greece and Denmark proposed to Her Majesty in 1947.

The ring showcases diamonds from Philip’s mother’s tiara, Princess Alice of Battenberg, as is customary in Royal Families. It is also around 3 carats in size:

When and where is the wedding likely to take place?

Princess Beatrice’s wedding is the fourth British Royal marriage to take place in recent years.

It follows the two weddings in 2018: those of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie.

Also, Prince Michael of Kent’s daughter, Lady Gabriella Windsor, married Tom Kingston this year, in 2019.

All four weddings took place in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and the Queen will undoubtedly offer Beatrice the same venue.

Other options could include Westminster Abbey, although this may be too high profile. Zara Phillips married Mike Tindall in Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, which is another option.

As to the date, the wedding could take place any time between spring and autumn 2020. Watch this space as we update this article!
