Some Ideas for Popping the Question at Christmas

Christmas is the time of year to celebrate with your loved ones, and if you’ve been together a while, the chances are you’ll be spending Christmas Day together.

Proposing at Christmas is a great way to involve friends and family in your proposal, so use your imagination and hide the ring on the Christmas tree, or wrap it in a series of boxes – she’ll think it’s a much larger gift!

There are plenty of imaginative ways to propose at Christmas; rope in Santa and his elves to help you or write a heartfelt poem in her Christmas card. You could even spell out your proposal in lights outside your house for a romantic and public way to pop the question that’s sure to leave her smiling.

If you have kids, you can get them to help you create a hand-made ornament which you can hide the ring in; this is sure to melt her heart. Or simply buy a ready-made ornament which has nooks and crannies you can use to hide the ring. Then either hand the ornament to her and let her find the ring or hide it on your Christmas tree and create a treasure hunt, with clues to help her find it herself.

This is one of the most romantic ways to surprise someone with a proposal at Christmas; she won’t suspect a thing, and you can gather the whole family around to celebrate afterwards over a glass of something fizzy and festive.

There’s something really magical about Christmas lights, so why not use them as part of your proposal plan? There are a number of ways you can do this – string them up outside the house and write “Will you marry me?” so she sees it as you pull into the drive on Christmas Eve. Or sneak out of bed in the night and write your proposal in lights on the living room wall; this will be one surprise that she wasn’t expecting!

If you want to do things on a bigger scale, get permission from your local park and arrange a romantic picnic (make sure you wrap up warm) with your proposal spelled out in lights on the grass. You may even be able to arrange with your local council to make your proposal part of their Christmas Lights display when they are turned on – you’re only limited by your imagination!

Santa is the ultimate symbol of Christmas and a reminder of happy childhoods spent opening presents under the tree. But now you can make Santa Claus part of your marriage proposal!

Take her to see Santa at your local grotto and pop the question whilst she’s telling him what she wants for Christmas. Or dress up as Santa yourself and rope in a Santa’s Grotto in your area to help you make your proposal magical.

If you have children, why not organise to be the Santa at their Christmas party? She’ll be so surprised when Christmas music is playing in the background and you drop to one knee to ask her to be your wife – the children will love it too!

There are plenty of websites where you can create personalised Christmas cards, or if you’re feeling creative you can make your own card from scratch. Alternatively, buy a card your other half will like and spend your time writing a heartfelt message.

A great way to propose using a Christmas card is to write a special poem asking her to marry you! You could even create a Christmas card treasure hunt, where cards are hidden around the house or another area, leading her to you, down on one knee with the ring in your hand. Just don’t make the treasure hunt too difficult or she might not find you!

One of the most romantic aspects of this proposal is that she can keep the cards to remember the day you asked her to marry you.

Everyone loves to decorate the Christmas tree, but why not make your decorations a bit different this year? Hiding her engagement ring on the tree is the perfect way to ask her to marry you. Great places to hide her sparkler include underneath the angel or the star on top of the tree, in a tiny box posing as a tree decoration or attached to any of the decorations that she’ll be putting on the tree.

It might take her a few moments to realise what’s happening, but when you get down on one knee and tell her you can see yourselves spending every Christmas together for the rest of your lives, there are sure to be tears (of joy!)
