Brooches seem to be a thing of the past, no-one seems to wear them anymore, even though they are a great little accessory to brighten up a plain top. When I often watch GOK on tv, he often adds things to tops and skirts. The latest thing was shoulder accessories with lots of beads and lots of bling.

Don’t forget it’s Mothers Day on Sunday 3rd April 2011.
I know that I am biased but jewellery makes the perfect Mother’s day gift, especially jewellery brought from us which comes with it’s own gift bag…simple, we do the job for you!
But what to buy?
Hmmm…tough one, mums can be picky but I am sure that any little black bag with The Diamond Store written on it will put a smile on even the toughest of mothers.
Over the years there is no question that classic gifts such as diamond heart pendants and diamond stud earrings have been the big sellers. This year we have added a lot of higher quality 18k gold pendants to our gemstone pendants and so far these are proving popular….I have listed the top sellers below…
Ruby Pendants, Emerald Pendants, Blue Sapphire Pendants, Tanzanite Pendants, Pink Sapphire Pendants
Our advice is to steer clear of rings unless you know mum really well, earrings and pendants are the easiest and best choices.
When’s the order deadline?
This year Mothers Day is on a Monday which is a tricky day for us onlien retailers. We use the Royal Mail Special Delivery for our deliveries as this insures the jewellery until you sign for it but this means that we have to get it in the post to you by Friday 1st April as there are no deliveries or collections on Sunday 2nd April 2011.
If you live a long way from your Mother then we can of course send your gift staright to her….now there’s a problem solved!
Sotheby’s have just held a sale in London selling 20 historic pieces of jewellery which were made by Cartier and charted the love affair between Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII from its earliest days to their 20th wedding anniversary. Many pieces were inscribed with dedications of their love.
The star piece of the show was a striking onyx and diamond panther bracelet that went for an astonishing £4.5million following a battle between two anonymous telephone bidders. Edward gave Wallis the panther bracelet in 1952 when they were living in exile in Paris. Madonna is making a film about the duchess and was among its admirers in the run-up to the sale. There are strong rumours that she was one of the telephone bidders and is the new owner.
The sale reached a total of £8million smashing the auctioneer’s estimate of £3million, which meant the bracelet was the most expensive ever sold and the jewels the most expensive single-owner collection ever auctioned.
It can sometimes be difficult deciding on how to accessorise what you are wearing. The clothes are laid out ready for work or play but need something added. Some good ways to decide which pieces of jewellery to wear are:
• Decide what types of jewellery you are in the mood to wear. If you want to look casual and understated then a pair of hoop earrings are a nice touch which matches most outfits. If you are going to work this can often be all you need.
• If you want something fancier think about colours and sizes with a plain outfit really benefiting from a splash of colour like a large brooch or cocktail ring.
• More obvious things are matching the necklace or pendant length to your neckline and adding a bracelet if your wrists are on display.
Michelle Obama and one of her two daughters are due to visit Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol for a short break and are staying at the exclusive 5 star Villa Padierna Hotel. Although officially her husband will not be joining her, it is Barack Obama’s 49th birthday while she is in Spain, and rumours are rife that the hotel has been asked to produce a birthday cake.
It will be interesting to see what jewellery America’s first lady of fashion wears under the Spanish sun. Her red-carpet lifestyle has been likened to that enjoyed by Cherie Blair and Jackie Kennedy and she owns an impressive collection of diamond jewellery, designer outfits and Jimmy Choo shoes – which means she will feel totally at home with Marbella’s glitterati.
She often wears a small dog tag that reads “Hope”, combined with a tiny peace symbol necklace. When she’s feeling bold she wears strands of oversize faux pearls.
Her election night jewellery included dangling diamond earrings which were a perfect choice for the celebration.
Michelle Obama won’t wear jewellery in a staid way – her style is best described as significant but not blingy. She takes some classic elements and applies them in an artistic way. For example she often groups three diamond brooches on the neckline of dresses and sweaters and even pins them to necklaces.
