How did the couple meet?

Harry and Meghan met in the summer of 2016 in London through mutual friends. They started seeing each other almost straightaway.

However, they kept the relationship strictly confidential until they were photographed together during their first official outing as a couple in September 2017.

This was at the Invictus Games in Toronto.

The official engagement announcement released by Kensington Palace:

What is Meghan’s engagement ring like?

The ring is a 3-stone ring, also known as a trilogy ring. Prince Harry confirmed that the main diamond was sourced from Botswana and that he designed the ring himself.

Trilogy rings are a stunning and meaningful choice for engagements. The three stones represent the couple’s past, present and future life together.

We know from the happy couple’s BBC interview that the two accent diamonds on either side of the centre stone come from the personal collection of Princess Diana, Harry’s mother.

This makes the ring’s special meaning even more lovely and poignant.

The centre stone in Meghan’s ring is, we believe, cushion cut. Our jeweller estimates that it probably weighs between 3.50 to 4.00 carats.

Cushion cut diamonds are famous for their stunning rainbow sparkle with inner fire

The cushion cut is one of the oldest and most popular ‘fancy’ diamond cuts. It was extremely sought after from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s.

The fact that Prince Harry chose this diamond shape proves its timeless beauty and quality.

How does Meghan’s ring compare to her previous engagement ring?

Meghan’s previous engagement ring, given to her by Trevor Engelson, looked like a princess cut diamond ring, probably around 2.00 carats in weight.

The ring was set in either white gold or platinum, with smaller diamonds, called sidestones, on the ring’s band. It was very similar to this ring here:
